I have been reading The Three Ages of the The Interior Life (It's two volumes...I'm on volume 1), which is a Catholic tome and one of the guidebooks for those who are entering full-time religious life/a religious order. I just finished the chapter on the essential sacrament of confession. The author lets a critique of Protestantism emerge in this chapter, bemoaning the fact that we Protestants don't receive the healing and humility we need because most of us don't hold to this sacred practice in a disciplined and regular way. In particular, the author believes that we are in greater danger of the sin of pride...a dangerous state of being from this author's perspective.
